First time using the fish skinner called Skinzit. It is a rough video attempt, the battery was not charged and I was excited to try my new toy. I am in my garage on a make shift cleaning station set up for winter fishing.
I'm not sending it back, but if I did, How well should I clean it! The Skinzit removes the rib bones at the backbone down to the belly. The belly bones pull out and an enormous amount of belly meat is saved. The "Y" bones are not removed, but a quick slice on each side about 1/4" wide removes them for boneless eating by all! Everyone in my house loves the crispy little fillets first, which by the way, are the belly meat.
I will shoot another video, when and if I catch more fish. My opinion after an initial use of the Skinzit is favorable. Notice how clean my hands were, the fillets did not slid all over the table, and I didn't have to wear my cleaning gloves to keep my hands warm. After all I am fishing thru the ice.
Hints: 1. when removing rib bone, hold the skinner at an angle (45degree) to the bone so that you come off the fillet at the belly. On large fish, do not grasp the handle any harder than required. You only have so much power and the Skinzit can stall out.
2. when removing the skin, skinner should be flat on the table. to engage the skin, tilt the handle forward and move into the fillet until skin tries to engage. At this point tilting the handle backwards seems to work best for the Skinzit to grab the skin for removal. Skin wider than the Skinzit can be a problem to remove.
