Fresh out of the police academy and just two months into his service, 30-year-old Constable Callan Andrews had his life violently cut short while serving his community.
A psychology graduate from Nelson Mandela University, Andrews chose to follow in his father’s footsteps by joining the South African Police Service.
But a patrol vehicle that broke down in the notorious area of Katanga, Gelvandale, set the stage for tragedy.
He was fatally shot on New Year’s Eve while trying to push start the patrol vehicle.
His family is demanding answers, saying his death was preventable.
