Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi was detained by UP police on Wednesday while she was on her way to Agra to meet the family of a man who allegedly died in police custody. Priyanka Gandhi tweeted saying, "Arun Valmiki's family is seeking justice. I want to visit family. What is the UP government afraid of? Why am I being stopped?"
As per reports, the man identified as Arun Valmiki was accused of stealing Rs. 25 lakh from Jagdishpura police station and allegedly died in police custody. SSP Agra reportedly said that the accused fell sick on Tuesday night while a raid was being carried out at his house to recover the stolen money. He was rushed to the nearest hospital, where doctors declared him dead, SSP Agra added.
