I purchased this carburetor last winter for a little project to give me something to do why recovering from surgery, as I really enjoy overhauling carburetors. For some reason I never got to it. I've been cleaning up the garage a little, and wanted it out of my way, so I finally overhauled it.
It's a GM Rochester 2-Jet, an ultra common carburetor used on Chevrolet V8's. This 2-Jet even has the Chevrolet bowtie with "Bay City" in the bowtie. I have overhauled hundreds of these old 2-Jets.... I have never seen one with the bowtie and Bay City in the bowtie. I'm wondering if this carburetor was made in Bay City for the Flint engine plant.
This is a long in-depth video on rebuilding one of these simple Rochester carburetors. If I get a lot of likes and views, I will rebuild other carburetors on video.... including four barrels and other brands like Holly, Autolite, Motorcraft and Carter to name a few.
I often see carburetors in estate sales. I'll start buying them to rebuild and sell, if there is interest in seeing that.
When I was working as a Marine Mechanic, I rebuilt thousands of carburetors, as marine engines used carburetors well into the early 2000's..... Plus all the carburetors I overhauled for old cars and friends carburetors for their cars. I also enjoy overhauling starters, alternators and generators and have done hundreds of them too over the years.
