Ed Harrison introduces the greatest source of danger for EMs: the balance sheet. With assets denominated in local currency, and debts denominated in dollars, EM balance sheets are extremely vulnerable to dollar rally. As Rahman says, “EM fortunes are largely tied to the dollar.”
