So after nearly 40 years in service, these things are finally leaving the southern network. They used to run on some of my local lines, such as the Caterham branch and I did see them fairly often although never made much of a fuss of them. But now they are leaving, I decided to go out and get one, specifically 811 on a Coulsdon Town short. Not a fast driver in terms of initial acceleration, but good speeds were achieved before Purley - and as it was a short there was a good opportunity for photos without having to go all the way out to Tattenham Corner.
