LEAD IN:
A dazzling array of precious gems and rare jewels has gone up for auction in London.
The collection includes a rare 20.35 carat pear-shaped diamond ring.
STORYLINE:
A pear-shaped 20.35 carat diamond ring went up for auction at Bonhams Auctioneers in London.
The ring went on sale as part of Bonhams Sale of Fine Jewellery.
The collection up for sale featured a wide array of fine jewellery, specifically diamonds.
Up for sale was a jade and diamond Art Deco jewellery, estimated to be worth between �15,000 - �20,000 (US$28, 000 - 37, 000) and a pair of diamond pendant earrings dated from around 1905, estimated at �5,000 (US$9,000).
However, the 20 carat ring, most notable for it's size, was touted as the highlight of the sale.
Jean Ghika, Head of Fine Jewellery at Bonhams Auctioneers, says that it is unusual to find a such a big stone with such good colour and clarity.
The pear-shaped ring, originally estimated to fetch anywhere from �180,000 to �250,000 (US$337, 400 - 468, 500 finally sold for �165, 000 (US$309,000).
