To understand how the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted children’s experience of learning, the UK Cost of the School Day project conducted some research through surveys and interviews. We gathered the experiences of parents and carers, and children and young people from across England, Scotland and Wales, with an emphasis on the experiences of low-income households. We found that the cost burdens of school closures have fallen most heavily on families already living on a low income. In this webinar, we examined the data we collected from Welsh families during our research, and explored themes including support for pupil wellbeing, home-school communication, provision of alternatives to free school meals, and poverty-related barriers to learning at home. These findings were presented by Ellie Harwood, Wales Development Manager for the Cost of the School Day project.
We were also joined by Gwen Hardy from Citizens Advice Cymru and Dr Steffan Evans from the Bevan foundation. Please see below for links to the research they discussed.
