*Porous Materials* sometime also called nanoporous materials. Accordingly to International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), porous materials are broadly classified into *3 kinds* by their pore size.
1. *Micro-porous materials*: Any materials having pore size less than 2 nm
2. *Macro-porous materials*: Any materials having pore size greater than 50 nm
3. *Meso-porous materials* : Any materials having pore size in the range of 2 to 50 nm.
Q1: *What is porous materials?*
When there is empty voids or pores in a materials --- called porous materials.
Q2: *Why do we need porous materials?*
For energy storage devices such as Lithium-ion battery and supercapacitor, porous materials are the key for high performance. Furthermore, for Hydrogen storage and CO2 capturing, a high surface area porous materials is required.
Q3: *How porous materials yield large surface area?*
The porous materials contains large number of tiny holes that expose more surface area for the externals molecules or ions to adsorb.
