In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about what happened at the Battle of Buxar and what were the reasons that led to it. After the battle of Plassey and Panipat, The Nawab of Bengal Mir Qasim started the revolt against British as he didn’t wanted to be held as their puppet like his father of law Mir Jafar. Mir Qasim joined hands with Mughal emperor Shah Alam-2 and Nawab of Awadh Shuja-Ud-Daula. The three joined armies faced British army led by Hector Munro in the field of Buxar. A faction of Naga Sadhu also joined and fought ferociously against the British. Buxar is a town on the bank of the river Ganga about 130 km west of Patna. The British won the battle and it became a decisive defeat for the future of India.
