Global Stocktaking Urges Accelerated Action on Sustainable Energy

The Global Stocktaking on Sustainable Energy highlighted a sluggish pace in meeting SDG 7 targets for affordable and clean energy by 2030. UN General Assembly President Dennis Francis called for urgent measures to provide electricity access to 685 million people and clean cooking solutions to over 2 billion relying on dirty fuels. Tripling global investment in renewable energy and energy efficiency by 2030, especially for vulnerable countries, was emphasized. Lack of finance and clean cooking solutions emerged as key challenges. The event, part of UNGA Sustainability Week, aimed to boost ambition and partnerships following the 2014-2024 UN Decade of Sustainable Energy for All.
