The 126-year-old St. Augustine Church, located in North St. Louis, is slated for demolition following a string of fires, with the latest occurring just last Monday. This marks the third fire at the former Catholic church within a span of two years.
The cause behind this recent blaze remains unclear. St. Louis Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson believes that homeless people who were looking for shelter inside the abandoned building may have accidentally started the fire.
The building is located on the corner of West Hebert and Lismore Streets. In 2022, it was undergoing renovation for a non-profit project when another fire struck.
