The Matchbox Mercedes-Benz 300SE was released in 1968 with green paintwork and regular wheels, a year later it was recoloured metallic blue prior to being converted to Superfast in 1970. The first Superfast versions were also metallic blue. Later in 1970 the car was recoloured metallic gold and during this phase the doors were changed to no longer open. The car was dropped from the core range in 1971. There were some military green ones issued in a twin-pack in 1977 and in silver in a Tesco multi-pack in 1981. By this stage the boot is also cast shut.
