The UK has proposed building a 20 billion pound bridge across the Irish Sea, connecting Scotland and Northern Ireland. The bridge would be 45 kilometers long and would be a combined road and rail crossing, cutting the 2.5 hour long ferry to a 30 minute car or train ride.
It would link up with local highways and the UK’s high speed rail network, boosting trade and allowing for quick transportation throughout the British isles. However, it would have to deal with treacherous weather and would cross Beaufort’s Dyke, a 300 meter deep munitions dump filled with hazardous weapons.
