Miriam had a bat mitzvah program for her classmates and family, where she led a tour of the Western Wall (Kotel) Tunnels. To prepare for the tour, she went three times for a couple of hours each to learn the history and how to lead a group along the route. The third time she gave a practice tour to her teacher who prepared her for the program.
The tour travels through various areas, including large rooms and narrow tunnels, and features multimedia and physical presentations, as well as signage to explain the locations and the history.
This video highlight shows parts of the exploration and the experience, as well as what it's like for Miriam and her classmates to participate in learning more about the history of the biblical period. At the end of the program, before returning to the outside area of the Western Wall Plaza, Miriam recites a text and signs her commitment, now as a Jewish woman, a "Bat Mitzvah" obligated and entitled to observe the commandments to their full, to remember always the significance of the holy city of Jerusalem and the area of the Temple - "If I forget thee Jerusalem, let my right hand forget its skill" (Psalm 137).
