This was really a lost TV episode pilot we ran across in our film archives. A Tale of Wells Fargo western TV series episode pilot starring Dale Robertson, Paul Fix, Helen Westcott, Stuart Randall and Ray Teal was originally released in 1956 as part of an almost completely long forgotten anthology episode series. From a story by Zane Grey with the teleplay by Frank Gruber. If you purchase the complete series of Tales of Wells Fargo on DVD this pilot episode is not included. This is episode 30 of The Forsaken Westerns, an original TV series produced by Westerns On The Web Productions in cooperation with The Westerns Channel. This episode was originally released on February 13 of 2018 on The Westerns Channel. The Forsaken Westerns is a series dedicated to finding and broadcasting western tv show episodes that appear to have been lost forever. Dale Robertson had been a pretty big box office draw for the movies in the 1950s. Discovered by a talent scout when his photo was placed in the window of a photography studio to help draw in business. Dale had the photo taken to send to his mother while he was in the military. Dale was born July 14 of 1923 in Harrah Oklahoma and served with a tank crew during WWII. Robertson started in movies in 1948 but his big break in westerns came in 1949 co-starring in Fighting Man of the Plains with Randolph Scott. Dale played the part of Jesse James. His favorite movie roll was as Vance Colby in The Gambler from Natchez in 1954. This pilot episode launched the series Tales of Wells Fargo which would air on television from 1957 through 1962 and would contain 201 episodes. Tales of Wells Fargo made Dale a TV super star. There were many endorsement items for the Tales of Wells Fargo TV show all the way from toys and comics to real automobiles. Dale was a magnificent horseman and if you see him in a production riding a horse that horse more than likely belongs to him. This episode is just a very good solid western tv show episode. This is a very enjoyable TV western episode from the most magnificent age of TV Westerns. The Forsaken Westerns series contains episodes of TV shows that were never broadcast or have not been broadcast in as many as 65 years.
