ISIS has captured at least 11 oil refineries across Iraq and Syria, but a string of fatal mistakes and the eradication of some less-than-devoted engineers have taken their toll, and the more than US$3 million dollars in oil revenue the group was collecting per day back in June has dwindled significantly.
So, if you know the industry and are OK with a bit of inhumanity and fanaticism, ISIS will start you out at $224,000 a year! Word on the street is that the old technique of threatening to kill your family isn’t working anymore, and ISIS is now being forced to compete on the market.
Jihadist websites are now said to have ads for ISIS oil engineers. One Dubai-based consultancy company pointed out — quite reasonably — that the pay does not quite match the risk involved.
