Non-metallic PVC pipe offers many benefits over traditional metal piping in that it is lighter-weight, costs less, is easier to assemble, and, long-term, can offer improved corrosion resistance. The challenge is that most non-metallic plastic pipe flanges are typically designed for rubber and have limited loading when it comes to torque that can be applied in the flange connections. Also, the allowable torque can vary from one manufacturer to another.
