From 15 January until 18 January 1957 Elvis was undertaking soundtrack recordings for the motion picture Loving You on the Paramount Sound Stage in Hollywood. However, this session was book ended by standard recording sessions at Radio Recorders’ studio one, also in Hollywood.
This song was recorded in the latter of those sessions on 19 January 1957 and was the third of four songs that were achieved that Saturday afternoon. Have I Told You Lately That I Love You is one of those songs that is largely unknown outside the Elvis community which is a pity as it is a fine recording.
The song was first released on 20 June 1957 as a bonus track on the Loving You soundtrack album before being part of an four track EP release on 21 August 1957.
