"The United States has both the will and the flexibility to help conclude a successful Doha round. We urge our APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Forum) partners to join us in this vital effort. 5. SOUNDBITE (English) George W Bush, US President:
"The work we do here at APEC will make an important contribution to the global discussions in the UN (United Nations) about a new framework on energy security and climate change. Later this month, the United States will convene a series of meetings of the nations that produce the most greenhouse gas emissions, including nations with rapidly growing economies like India and China. We are going to work hard to reach an agreement by next year on a detailed plan for a future action. Here's my strategy. In order for there to be effective climate change policy, India and China need to be a part of the process."

7. SOUNDBITE (English) George W Bush, US President:
"For the sake of the security and peace, those that sit at the table tomorrow must do everything we can to stop the radicals and the murderers. The nations of the Asia-Pacific understand this threat all too well. You've experienced terrorist violence in your cities and on your streets. Violent Islamic extremists have killed the innocent in Bali and Jakarta and Manila, and other places. The leaders of Al Qaida have issued threats against Australia and Japan and South Korea."

STORYLINE:
US President George W. Bush on Friday urged Asia-Pacific nations to work harder to complete the Doha round of trade negotiations, saying that Washington had the will and flexibility to get it done this year.
"We urge our APEC partners to join us in this vital effort. As we work to liberalise trade and investment through Doha, the United States also supports the vision of the free trade area of the Asia-Pacific," Bush said in Sydney.
The World Trade Organisation has been speaking to APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Forum) ministers and painting a desperate picture of a global trade agreement that could be shelved until 2009.
On climate change, Bush said that positions would be staked out at APEC ahead of the UN (United Nations) -sponsored negotiation of a post-Kyoto protocol in Bali in December.
Bush also asked the Asia-Pacific leaders for their cooperation on climate change. He acknowledged the fears of some that the United States was trying to construct a successor to the Kyoto Protocol outside of international efforts already under way.
"The work we do here at APEC will make an important contribution to the global discussions in the UN about a new framework on energy security and climate change," said the US President.
