This video answers the question: What are the requirements for the water supplies of home fire sprinkler systems in one- and two-family dwelling units per NFPA 13D?

There are some notable differences between these residential requirements and commercial requirements found in NFPA 13.
For example, the duration for sprinkler system operation is only 7 to 10 minutes. This means home sprinklers can connect to relatively small water tanks if a tank and pump are used. Section 6.2 provides a complete list of allowable water supply sources.
Because NFPA 13D doesn’t require the tank or pump to meet the requirements of NFPA 20 or NFPA 22, these allow for a wider selection of equipment at more affordable costs.
