Singapore is the first among 15 participating countries to ratify the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. Trade and Industry Minister Chan Chun Sing said this signals Singapore's commitment to strengthen trade and economic linkages with its partners. The group is aiming for the deal to take effect from Jan 1, 2022, but it must first be ratified by at least six ASEAN and three non-ASEAN member states. Once implemented, RCEP would be the world's largest free trade agreement, covering a third of the world's population and about 30% of the world's economy.
