Mike Allen doing his new National Fresh show in early November 1986. National Fresh was the first Hip Hop show to be broadcast across the UK. It was not on a national station but was broadcast on a number of local radio stations across the country on a weekly basis. The format was similar to the Capital Radio show but was squeezed into an hour.
Here we have Mike bringing along some strong records from that time. Starting off with a track from the Beastie Boys’ soon to be released and ground-breaking album ‘Licensed To Ill’. Other stand out sounds are the Egyptian Lover with the West Coast influence, Spoonie Gee with an imitation of (and probably a dig at) Schoolly D and one of the brilliant Double Dee and Steinski ‘Lesson’ mixes.
Track List includes:
Beastie Boys – Time To Get Ill
The Boogie Boys – Run It
The Manics feat. Cut Master D.C. – Bum MC’s
Egyptian Lover – The Lover
The Showboys – Drag Rap
Spoonie Gee – That’s My Style
Double Dee & Steinski – Lesson 2
