The scale of the global refugee crisis means that, to keep up, refugee resettlement agencies in the United States need to find the right landlord, with the right unit, at the right time - over and over and over again - at the pace of an expert broker. But these are refugee agencies, not real estate agencies. They're falling way behind on housing, and the widening gap means that more than 250,000 families are at risk of arriving to the US homeless.
ReHome is a social impact real estate company with a plan to fill this gap, and we'll unlock a better rental market for everyone along the way.
The Refugee-Welcoming Rental Market (RWRM) is where refugee resettlement agencies and welcoming landlords match refugee families with rental homes before these families land in the country. ReHome makes it easy for anyone to become a Welcoming Landlord and access great refugee tenants in the RWRM. Our vision is to be a platform hub for the RWRM as it grows, and we've already started helping both landlords and refugee tenants.
Through our ReHome Matching Services (RMS), we've saved RAs more than 15 hours of housing search work and $1400 in emergency housing costs for each of the 10 RWRM matches we made. RMS is powered by ReHome's models for aligning incoming refugee households in real-time with vetted prospective matches in the local rental market.
Through ReHome Marketplace, we've matched 9 landlords with 10 tenant households totaling 51 refugee newcomers. ReHome Marketplace (www.rehomemarketplace.com) is our public platform for landlords to match with refugee tenants flown in by the US government. For each of ReHome's ten matches, we confirmed placement within just 7 days of the unit's Move-In-Ready date and saved landlords more than 14 days' worth of rent payments.
Our next goal is to build a support software for RMS, which will help RAs close on great leads from ReHome faster. The software will free up even more staff time at RAs by providing one focused place for all their housing searches and workflows.
We have an ambitious but reasonable work plan for scaling ReHome's support to the RWRM from our first service area in Lancaster, PA to the rest of the country within 18 months. We'll move quickly and strategically, because the US government has doubled the pace of resettlement this year and does not show signs of slowing down. As more refugees arrive, they will all need a solid foundation in stable housing to build toward self-sufficiency and integration from day one.
We welcome all housing providers and refugee allies to build the Refugee-Welcoming Rental Market with us.
