There is no slow air quite like Port Na bPúcaí. The tune was with one of the last fiddle players to leave the Blasket Islands when they were evacuated in the 1950s. Various stories tell that the tune was heard by an Islander one night carried by the wind. Perhaps it was the lament for the death of a Fairy or Water Sprite.
This beautiful, haunting melody connects us directly to another world, one governed by ancient spirits that inhabit our surroundings.
