Houston County's 2024 Teacher of the Year is no stranger to the people of Central Georgia.
Back in July, 13WMAZ interviewed one Jade Thomas, a marine veteran who served for eight years, and now teaches at Lake Joy Elementary School. Her service captured the attention of the district and a well-known production company.
Now, Thomas has captured even more of the spotlight, as her recent Teacher of the Year win and documentary as kept her quite busy.
"EverWonder Studio emailed me in like September and they're like, 'Hey, we're doing this documentary. We saw your article on 13WMAZ and we're highlighting teachers who are just doing work with the community and just doing great things in our school, and we'd love to highlight you,'” she said. “So, I was like, 'Okay, great, let's go for it.'"
Little did she know the documentary would come with a magical surprise.
"When I came into school for the 2nd day of filming, that's when I found out that it was actually a surprise trip to Disney and I was just at a loss for words, which is really hard for me to be at a loss for words,” Thomas said. “I was just in complete shock."
