Sky News host Chris Kenny says the current lockdown impacting Melbourne should never have been called and is one which is now “demonstrably unnecessary”.
“In the past 24 hours another 49,000 tests and just 4 infections, all close contacts, therefore all already isolated under any circumstances,” Mr Kenny said.
“Therefore, the lockdown was pointless”.
“The lockdown is again superfluous, all pain and no gain”.
Mr Kenny said while the state has been locked down, and Melbourne remains in lockdown, politicians and journalists “spend all day trying to frighten people”.
He said that everyday there is a “desperate search” and a “new twist” to maintain the levels of fear among people.
This is the case, “because without creating fear, Victoria's incompetence would be exposed,” he said.
“Without finding a new phrase, a new term, a new way to frame a variant, a new way to describe transmission, Victorian officials and acting Premier James Merlino would be left to explain their actions.
“Yep, these people are frightening Victorians and the rest of the county in order to hide their own incompetence.”
