I Avoided Amputation With A Second Opinion | Duke's Story
Duke's vascular specialist told him he didn't make as much money performing an angiogram or bypass as with amputation so why delay the inevitable? Duke's idea of a good quality of life meant doing everything in his power to keep his legs, even if that meant getting plaque cleaned out of his arteries once a year. So, he sought a second opinion from an advanced skilled P.A.D. specialist who was able to use lower trauma minimally invasive techniques to restore blood flow to his legs. That procedure, coupled with a regimented walking program, and he has avoided amputation and has yet to have a follow-up procedure more than a year later. Duke's new vascular specialist Dr. Yazan Khatib with First Cardiovascular in Jacksonville, Florida joined the conversation with Duke and hosts Dr. John Phillips and Kym McNicholas to explain why amputation was unnecessary in Duke's case.
