In this episode, Aaron builds a custom inlet hose for the turbo legacy! He uses an $8 Spectre brand vacuum/sensor adapter kit (goo.gl/Qm41uq), which is just a few bungs and a couple hole saws to make ports for the IACV, PCV, and valve cover gasket breathers just as it was on the stock intake pipe.
The TD04 inlet diameter is 2.205" but a 2.25" coupler works just fine with a good clamp on it. The blue coupler was a 45* 2.25" to 3" bought off eBay for $6. The orange coupler is a straight 3" from eBay for $3. The aluminum inlet pipe was from a cold-air intake off a MK3 VW Jetta found at the junk yard, $10. The MAF used was stock, and the cone filter was already being used, but was $20 at a local parts store.
Adding everything up, you get an extremely functional and customizable inlet pipe for $27 plus the cost of your choice of filter.
As of right now, the car is running just fine without any intercooler. Yes an intercooler would be a good option, but for simplicities sake, I decided against an intercooler for the time being. Eventually it will get an intercooler, but even without one, it runs great!
