The J1939 DBC file is a 'CAN database' (DBC) that enables you to decode raw J1939 data from most heavy duty vehicles - including trucks, buses, tractors, excavators, forklifts etc. The DBC file format is the de facto standard for storing 'decoding rules' for how to interpret raw CAN frames - and extracting the actual physical value parameters packed within.
In the J1939 standard, CAN signals are referred to a Suspect Parameter Numbers (SPN) and are grouped by Parameter Group Numbers (PGN). The J1939 DBC file contains 1800+ J1939 PGNs and 12000+ J1939 SPNs. The DBC file is derived from the J1939 Digital Annex (J1939 DA), which is also included in the bundle.
The J1939 DBC can be used in practically all CAN bus software/API tools today and provides a convenient method for both heavy duty OEMs and aftermarket users to decode data across different heavy duty vehicle models and brands.
