Disused Railway Explore - Shirebrook, Warsop Junction, Warsop Main Colliery Line
I headed out to the far eastern reaches of Derbyshire to start my most recent disused/abandoned railway explore in Shirebrook - a once busy railway junction with multiple lines disecting to various areas of the East Midlands and beyond.
A short train ride down the Robin Hood line from Whitwell to Shirebrook, passing a number of interesting sites of my recent explores (Whitwell Tunnel, Clowne Branch, Creswell & Elmton Signal Box).
In this video, I will be following the former Warsop Main Colliery line from next to Shirebrook station, into Nottinghamshire. Taking in an extended explore of the Warsop Junction area and neighbouring sidings.
The line from Shirebrook into Warsop Main Colliery is only a short one. The colliery opened in 1889 and closed in 1989. The trackbed now forms part of the Dukeries Trail Greenway - a great surface for cyclists and walkers.
After around half a mile of following the disused railway, we pass under the bridge which carries the former LD&ECR (Lancashire, Derbyshire & East Coast Railway) in the direction of Lincoln. This section of the line is still in use and is now called the High Marnham Test Track.
The area to the right of our disused railway was once the location of a series of sidings and shunting loops, which sit on top of an embankment. These lines were primarily accessed from the top line (LDECR) via Warsop Junction. We find remains of the signal boxes that at various points in time straddled the bridge. Hidden amongst the undergrowth and vegetation are remains and evidence of the sidings, junction and railway infastructure that supported Warsop Junction and the sidings.

My channel was set up in 2020 mainly to feature my running adventures. I planned to film and showcase the days out and destinations my running travels took me. Mainly the Peak District and the sights and marvels of Sheffield and the surrounding regions.
However due to Covid restrictions, I found a new interest in researching and exploring old abandoned places - railway lines, canal, woodland, parks to name a few.
So the videos you'll find will be mainly be of those things. Of course, where possible I'll be running to my destination.
