New 2017 F-150 Raptor steering subsystem failure. The steering wheel was forcefully turning itself left and right erratically; up to 90 degree turns very quickly. Very dangerous. I was on high elevation logging roads when this occurred. Overcoming the erratic behavior felt was similar to steering a wheel without power steering. Making turns was near impossible.
The following subsystem faults were being reported in the above video. Alerts not shown in the video include decent control and traction control system faults.
* Low Battery Features Temporarily Turned Off
* Steering Assist Fault Service Required
* Terrain Management System Fault
* Lane Keeping Sys. Malfunction Service Required
What caused the Raptor to malfunction so excessively? I drove the Raptor on a logging road that had some pot holes. Never exceeded 35 MPH when hitting pot holes.
[Update 5/21/2017 - FIX]
Same day the issue occurred I took the Raptor into a local dealership and they resolved the issue. Root cause was a 12VDC line to a junction box was loose due to the factory not properly securing a nut. The line fed the computer subsystems that were faulting including power steering. They fixed the connection. I verified the fix worked by taking the truck to the mountains over the same spot where two times it previously started acting up. Truck is working correctly now.
