Four days after a Malaysian airliner was shot down over eastern Ukraine, US President Barack Obama is calling for international investigators to have full and immediate access to the crash site.
Speaking on the South Lawn of the White House Monday, Mr Obama accused pro-Russian separatists in the area of removing evidence and bodies from the crash site and hindering investigators.
"The Russian-backed separatists who control the area continue to block the investigation. They have repeatedly prevented international investigators from gaining full access to the wreckage. As investigators approached, they fired their weapons into the air," he said.
Obama said the separatists' actions raise questions about what they are trying to hide.
The president said the burden is on Russia and President Vladimir Putin to compel the separatists to cooperate with the investigation.
