This week, author, professor of political science, & political theorist Corey Robin joins Briahna Joy Gray on Bad Faith to unpack his recent article about how AI is disrupting how writing is taught across the country. The tech/ Chat GPT has gotten so good that it's nearly undetectable, and the temptation to cheat on at home essays is making many teachers consider whether all essay writing should happen in class. But the trade offs are obvious: Should limited class time time be taken up by in class essays? Is it worth asking whether the pedological benefit of at home essays is worth losing dynamic, socratic in class learning. What are we trying to teach kids with long form writing assignments anyway. Is writing obsolete? Should we lean into technological help in writing the way we've all become accustomed to spell check? Didn't Captain Kirk teach us that rigging technology to help you ace a test isn't actually cheating at all?
