-Initial training from Pandit Shankarrao Sapre (Gwalior Gharana)
-गंडाबंध शागिर्द (Gandabandh Shagird) of Faqir Ustad Asad Ali Khan (Patiala Gharana) and Ustad Ashiq Ali Khan during his stay at Lahore (Years 1938-1941). Ustad Asad Ali Khan used to stay at Shahdara dargah on the banks of river Ravi. The learning/training from Fakir Asad Ali Khan proved to be a turning point in his life.
-Learned from Sureshbabu Mane (Kirana Gharana) during years 1942-1952
-गंडाबंध शागिर्द (Gandabandh Shagird) of Ustad Aman Ali Khan (Bhendibazar Gharana) (Year 1950)
-Earned Ph.D. in Year 1962: Thesis title "Transformation of Music of Tomorrow's Khayal"
-Credited to popularize Punjab gayaki (खांसाहेबी ढंगाचे गाणे) in Maharashtra
-Renowned Marathi writer P. L. Deshpande described him as पं. वसंतखां देशपांडे (Pandit Vasantkhan Deshpande)
