Philippines - Terror Trail (2003) - The Philippines have become a haven for terrorists, enabling illegal organisations to recruit and train members.

A Jema’ah Islamiyah operative addresses the camera. “We are here in the Philippines to unite armed Muslim fighters,” he proclaims. “Our intention is to establish an Islamic nation in South-East Asia.” He is one of at least 3,000 terrorists from different groups who have made their base on the Philippine island of Sulu. Attracted by the lax border controls and corrupt officials, they are establishing training camps across the country. On the nearby island of Mindanao, foreign fighters come from all over to be instructed at Camp Abu Bakar. Some of the Bali bombers are alleged to have trained here, although the camp’s commander denounces their actions. “Camp Abu Bakar is the veritable training ground for regional terrorism,” states National Defence Secretary Angelo Reyes.
