This is a recording of a paper that I gave at a Symposium on Music, Monuments and Memory at Durham University Centre for Death and Life Studies on 13th November 2021. The paper deals with newly constructed barrows modelled after Neolithic and Bronze Age Chamber Tombs that are being built around southern England for the interment of human cremated remains. The paper discusses new barrows as modern monuments with a connection to an imagined past, and pays particular attention to their use as performative, theatrical and ritual spaces through the use of sound and music.
