In this week's Fern Friday I wanted to talk about a fern that is new to me, the Cotton Candy fern. This fern is commonly labeled as Nephrolepis exaltata 'cotton candy' but I have seen other names to describe ferns with the name of cotton candy. I don't know what is going on there. Perhaps the common name is being used for multiple plants or there is just a lot of mislabeling out there, which is entirely possible. I even noticed when researching this fern that there were multiple ferns that look fairly different all under the same name. What if this fern in the video isn't even an actual Cotton candy fern!? That would be embarrassing! haha! Usually i associate ferns with lush and intricate foliage as being water and humidity hogs but i really haven't had to baby this fern much at all. It has only been a couple of weeks but so far this fern is showing great potential to be an easy houseplant, even better, a low light houseplant that is easy and possibly drought tolerant? This fern is related to the Boston Fern so maybe some of it's easy to grow characteristics are shining through because of that plant line.
This a new fern for me so anyone who has info to add please please please, feel free to help keep the education growing down in the comment section!
So far my brief assement of this houseplant is that it potentially is: a low light houseplant, a low to medium water houseplant, low water fern, etc... overall I think this might just be a great an easy to grow houseplant and an easy to grow fern...
as far as ferns are concerned.... Time will tell!
