The beauty of academic institutions is that they can create research studies to know more about a certain phenomenon or medical condition. Dr. Eduardo Hariton (@haritonmd), who has clinical research and business backgrounds, collaborated with a group of clinicians at University of California San Francisco and partnered with Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) to make ASPIRE study into reality.
ASPIRE stands for Assessing the Safety of Pregnancy in the Coronavirus Pandemic and it is focused on the first trimester, a critical and vulnerable period of pregnancy when all of a baby’s organ systems and placenta develops. It aims to provide information that can (1) guide the care of pregnant women, (2) protect the safety of babies and (3) help those who are planning to get pregnant in the future.
Dr. Cindy Duke supports this study because she believes that the study is well designed and it is what we need in order to better provide answers to prospective parents about this virus that poses too many unanswered questions. Her clinic, the Nevada Fertility Institute, is one of the partner clinics for this study.
