Our second day in Budapest, on the 20th of December, was marked by a biting cold, with Christmas just around the corner. Despite the chill, our spirits were high as we ventured deeper into the city's charm.
We began our exploration at the Fisherman’s Bastion, a stunning neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque terrace offering panoramic views of the Danube and Pest. Built in the late 19th century as a tribute to the fishermen who once defended the city walls, its fairy-tale-like towers set the tone for a magical day. From there, we made our way to the iconic Chain Bridge, the first permanent bridge connecting Buda and Pest, a symbol of unity and resilience since 1849.
The day culminated at St. Stephen’s Basilica, a grand architectural marvel named after Hungary’s first king, where the vibrant Christmas market added a festive touch to the serene surroundings. The scent of mulled wine and roasted chestnuts filled the air as we strolled through the bustling market, soaking in the warmth of the holiday spirit.
Four Indians wandering the historic streets of Budapest, uncovering its beauty and stories, made for an unforgettable and adventurous experience.
