"Vidi Aquam" is an antiphon used for the Sprinkling Water Rite in the extraordinary form of the Mass. It is specifically used during the Easter season, a time characterized by joy, renewal, and the celebration of the Resurrection. The text of "Vidi Aquam" reflects themes of baptism and the joy of Easter.
The Sprinkling Water Rite serves to remind us of our baptismal promises. Since holy water is a sacramental, it has the power to cleanse us from venial sin, thus preparing us for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
Vidi Aquam 3:05
Lyrics:
Vidi aquam egredientem de templo, a latere dextro, Alleluia:
Et omnes ad quos pervenit aqua ista, salvi facti sunt,
Et dicent: Alleluia, Alleluia.
Confitemini Domino, quoniam bonus,
quoniam in saeculum misericordia ejus.
Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto,
Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper, et in saecula saeculorum. Amen.
Vidi aquam egredientem de templo, a latere dextro, Alleluia:
Et omnes ad quos pervenit aqua ista, salvi facti sunt,
Et dicent: Alleluia, Alleluia.
I saw water flowing out of the Temple, from its right side, Alleluia:
And all to whom this water came were saved,
And they shall say: Alleluia, Alleluia.
Give thanks to the Lord for he is good
for the world [is] in his mercy.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
I saw water flowing out of the Temple, from its right side, Alleluia:
And all to whom this water came were saved,
And they shall say: Alleluia, Alleluia.
