Today we’re taking a look at the new Local Legend 18, the Westland Scout by IniBuilds and take it up around EGFF Cardiff and the Welsh city of Barry, which are part of World Update XVII. I hope you’ll agree with me, that the latest World Update sets a new visual standard for flight simulation.

I often think British aircraft can be put in two categories, some of the best looking and some of the worst looking aircraft ever build. There really is nothing in between. The Westland Scout and Wasp fall in the second category. But I think they are so ugly, that they become interesting again. And Inibuilds has done a fantastic job with them. The visual model, both on the in- and outside, is fantastic with tons of details and very sharp textures. Especially the exposed engine is stunning to look at. The sounds are quite good too and the flight model is enjoyable. A nice extra are the features available via the tablet, like the engine covers, tags or removable doors and in case of the Scout you can add a stretcher and in case of the Wasp you can add two floats above the cockpit (in case of emergency water landings).

In my opinion the real star of the latest World Update however isn’t the Local Legend, but the World Update itself. Previously you couldn’t get to close to photogrammetry cities, as buildings would look melted, bridges were solid and trees and bushes were just green mases. Like the latest City Update WU 17 uses new photogrammetry and makes cities look incredibly real and detailed. Even bridges, parked cars, large signs or amusement parks, are detailed and sharp. I think the Update really sets a new visual standard for flight simulation and I can’t wait to explore more areas of the updated UK.

The new update also makes me even more excited for MSFS 2024, as it’ll use this type of photogrammetry!
