Cardiovascular disease, in particular coronary artery disease, is the leading cause of death worldwide, with more than 50% of heart attacks occurring in patients aged 70 or older. It is the leading cause of death in women, and yet, women are under-diagnosed, under-treated and under-represented in cardiovascular research. The care and well-being of older high-risk adults with heart disease has led to a number of initiatives to address the disparity in care women receive.
