The Guardian newspaper appears to have it in for spiked. It keeps smearing us as ‘hard right’. It has published ridiculous conspiracy theories about us being in the pocket of billionaires. This is despite spiked being a pro-freedom, pro-democracy, pro-choice, anti-racist and anti-monarchy publication, which is funded by our readers and viewers. Here, Tom Slater debunks the Guardian’s slurs. Plus, he argues that, if anything, the illiberal-liberal newspaper of record more closely fits the definition of ‘hard right’. After all, the Guardian published calls to subvert the mass democratic vote for Brexit. It has been accused by former contributors and allies of harbouring both misogynists and Jew haters. And it has produced more than its fair share of anti-Semitic cartoons. Remind me: which publication is reactionary and extreme here?
