Greek Cypriots celebrate Greek National Day, March 25, with a parade near the Old City in Nicosia. The holiday commemorates the day in 1821 when a Greek flag was raised over the Agia Lavra monastery, declaring independence from the Ottoman Empire.

The celebration in Cyprus reflects somewhat represents old sentiments to for Enosis, or union with Greece.
