In 1858 the French Egyptologist and Archaeologist Auguste Mariette launched a dig in Dra’ Abu el-Naga’ – one of the ancient Theban necropoli. On the 5th February 1859 a group of twenty workmen found the rich burial of queen Ahhotep from the 16th century BC. She was tentatively identified with another queen of this name – the spouse of the famous king Seqenenre Taa of the 17th Dynasty. However, the burial has its secrets. Explore its wonders from the Cairo and Luxor museums and admire their overwhelming beauty.
