A $40,000 limit on the EV tax credits is obviously total absurd. For starters hardly any BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles) even qualify. It would only really be PHEVs that would qualify for any of this. Only one Tesla qualifies and it already has demand backed up until next year. Therefore, this would in no way benefit Tesla, unless they rose the price of their Model 3 standard range, but then they could only raise their price slightly until they would hit this threshold.
BEVs are expensive to make, especially for the legacy autos. They are struggling to make any profits with their current BEVs. So, if these are now excluded from the tax credit, then what's the point of it?
Let's discuss the effect of a $40,000 limit on the tax bill, and review just how likely it is that it would actually pass.
