One of the best preserved Sultanate era masjids in Delhi. Central attraction of the Purana Qila, which was originally built as a city fort by Sher Shah Suri. After Humayun reconquered Delhi, he made this as his administrative capital. Humayun is said to have died in the building now called as Sher Mandal. Purana Qila was also the place of refuge for thousands of Muslims fleeing the riots after the partition in 1947.
