Another two-day amalgam – one visit each day, both parents and one outspoken youth up close both times. A bale the first day and a log and some fun by the birdbath the second - chick and mum eating coir, chick's first visit to something I moved for the birds, mum getting scared by water in the birdbath...it was a really pleasant visit.
It's getting to be the “usual three” that come up close, mum, dad and Noisy. I'm assuming the chick that comes closest to me is a male and the other two are females. This chick is getting used to being around me, which is good. The other two – nope!
At about 6:27 she snatches a roach from right under his beak – cute! Interesting that she didn't eat the clearly visible termites after she seemed to enjoy them the other day – but there's a lot more food on a roach. She gets chatty from 6:45 for a while which was a pleasant change from the youngster.
I mentioned the other day that I'd set out come coir for the magpies and I'm glad I made it accessible for them – this was the first time I'd seen them use it but I don't spend all day watching the magpies. I can see the birdbath from my desk but I don't see everything they get up to.
Cheers folks!
