Quick definition of project scope and product scope within project management.
There are two uses for the term scope in project management. Whilst they are often used interchangeably they actually have two separate and distinct meanings.
Product scope, also referred to as specifications is used to define the deliverable. This is what the project will produce. A good way to think about it is, once the project has gone, what is left over- that will (in most cases) be the product scope.
The Project Scope (often called scope of works) on the other hand is all the work required to deliver the product scope. Basically all the work that needs to be done to complete the project.
